Towards the end of 2007 all planned
fieldwork was completed. This included surveys of previously unvisited grape
growing regions in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria. The monthly sampling of two P. persicae populations, in order to
reveal both scale and natural enemy phenology was also completed. Other
progress in 2007, included the near finalisation of the molecular component of
the study, which has developed a method to discriminate between scale species
found in vineyards using mitochondrial DNA sequences. The remainder of the year
was spent curating and identifying soft scale and natural enemy specimens. The
life of the project was officially extended now due to conclude by July 2008.
